The aim of the workshop was to initiate the roadmap publication process by identifying new areas of research and development covering the four carbomet BIS. This process also included the updating of previous research areas that were published in the last roadmap in 2015. The delegates were identified through direct and open invitation to ensure industry involvement and a mixture of early career and experienced researchers. Participants were divided into four groups representing the four BIS according to interest and expertise followed by a structured discussion during the two-day meeting.

Result: Key research topics and trends were identified in each of the four BIS for the roadmap. A general layout of the roadmap was discussed to ensure clear communication to the general and scientific audience.
