New insights into steatotic liver disease emerge at the intersection of advanced mass spectrometry, clinical research and cell biology. In this PhD position, you will work within the ZonMw-funded GLYCELL project, developing innovative glycomics methodologies and studying unique patient cohorts. Your research will focus on understanding how glycosylation contributes to the development of steatohepatitis and liver fibrosis. Close collaboration with leading research groups within and outside LUMC creates an inspiring and multidisciplinary research environment. At the same time, you will have ample opportunity to develop into an independent researcher.
About your role
The ZonMw-funded GLYCELL project aims to generate novel and detailed insights into glycoconjugates present in human hepatocytes that play a functional role in the progression of MASLD. Advanced glycomics methodologies will be applied to perform in-depth spatial analyses of the glycoproteome of human hepatocytes using unique longitudinal MASLD patient cohorts and advanced in vitro models. You will work closely with clinical and cell biology research teams and use your findings to unravel the molecular mechanisms through which glycosylation contributes to the development of steatohepatitis and liver fibrosis.
Your main responsibilities include:
Developing and applying nanoLC-MS and MS imaging glycomics methodologies.
Performing in-depth analyses of the glycoproteome of human hepatocytes.
Collaborating with clinical and cell biology research teams within the GLYCELL consortium.
Investigating how glycosylation contributes to the development of steatohepatitis and liver fibrosis.
